STOPAIDS quarterly meeting
The UK government has placed key populations at the top of its list of priorities in the HIV response, with harm reduction interventions for people who use drugs referenced throughout their HIV position paper. But the UN system is gearing up for the largest review of drug policy since the 90s and countries focused on increased criminalisation – mirrored by those seeking liberalisation of laws around marijuana – are mobilising. With a representative from harm reduction pioneers, Switzerland, the UK Department for International Development, the Home Office and civil society, Lord Norman Fowler will chair a debate on the chances of the 2016 UN General Assembly on Drugs delivering increased rights and services for people who use drugs, and what the UK government will be doing to secure this outcome. We’ll also be launching our new factsheet on harm reduction and updating members on developments across the network.
The STOPAIDS next Quarterly meeting takes place on Wednesday 22nd January, 1pm – 4.30pm at THT The Lighthouse in Ladbroke Grove, with a focus on harm reduction.
