The Centre for Research and Information on Substance Abuse's (CRISA) 15th Biennial International Conference, will be held the 9–10 of October at Barcelona Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria.

The 2024 conference will feature scientific sessions with an unparalleled opportunity to learn from research presentations relevant to all substance use experts, researchers and programme implementers including important series of panel sessions aimed at broadening our understanding of substance use, policies and interventions.

The conference features Professor Jallal Toufiq as a keynote speaker. Prof. Toufiq has held consultancy roles with the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, UNODC and other international institutions, research fellowships and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the United States. Published widely in the field of psychiatry, alcohol and drug abuse. Member of the International Narcotics Control Board (since 2015). Member of the Standing Committee on Estimates (2015). Chair (2021) and Member (2016) of the Committee on Finance and Administration. First Vice-President of the Board (2018). President of the Board (2023).

Professor Gernot Klantschnig from the School of Policy Studies, University of Bristol will lead a panel session on the Cannabis Africana Research findings and policy implication of the cannabis research conducted in different African countries.

There will also be a workshop on field research in illicit drug markets led by the Cannabis Africana team as well as panel sessions on human rights and substance use treatment.
